Hexaxim Vaccine is a vaccine to protect infants and toddlers against diphtheria, hemophilus influenzae type B disease, pertussis, tetanus, polio, and hepatitis B infection. It helps develop immunity against the mentioned diseases by initiating a mild infection.
Hexaxim Vaccine is administered by injection to infants and toddlers starting from the age of 6 weeks. It is usually given at 6, 10, and 14 weeks followed by a booster dose in the second year of life. If the child does not get all the doses, he/she will not be fully protected against the virus. Make sure the child turns up for all the doses. It should be given by a doctor or nurse, who will make sure you get the right amount. Do not try to administer this medicine at home by yourself.
The most common side effects of this vaccine include injection site reactions (such as pain, tenderness, swelling, and redness), fever, irritability, sleepiness, diarrhea, and vomiting. However, these are usually mild and resolve with time. Consult the doctor if they are bothering you or do not go away. Before injecting this vaccine, tell the doctor if the child has any other medical conditions or is on any medications. This will make sure the safety of the child.
Polio is a life-threatening disease caused by the poliovirus. It can spread from person to person and can infect the brain and spinal cord causing paralysis (unable to move body parts). Hexaxim Vaccine gives protection against polio virus. It helps the immune system to produce antibodies to fight against the virus. Hexaxim Vaccine is to be administered only by or under the supervision of your doctor. You should never self-administer this medicine. It is advisable to consult your doctor for complete information regarding vaccination schedules.
