View alternate brandIstamet G-IR 50/500/1 Tablet is a combination of three medicines used to lower blood glucose levels in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is generally prescribed when diet, exercise, and other treatments do not result in adequate glycemic control.
Istamet G-IR 50/500/1 Tablet is best taken with food; however, take this medicine regularly and at the same time each day to get maximum benefits. The dose and duration are decided according to your condition and how well you respond to it. The doctor may also monitor your blood sugar levels regularly when you are taking this combination medicine.
Keep taking this medicine even if you feel well or your blood sugar levels are controlled. If stopped abruptly, your blood sugar levels could rise and put you at risk of complications. This medication is only part of a treatment program that should also include a healthy diet, regular exercise, and weight reduction because lifestyle habits play a big part in controlling diabetes.
The most common side effects of Istamet G-IR 50/500/1 Tablet include nausea, vomiting, gastrointestinal disturbances, and hypoglycemia. Let your doctor know if any of these side effects do not go away or get worse. They may be able to help by adjusting the dosage or by prescribing an alternate medicine.
You should not take Istamet G-IR 50/500/1 Tablet if you have type 1 diabetes mellitus or acute or chronic metabolic acidosis, including diabetic ketoacidosis. Patients with active bladder cancer or a history of bladder cancer should also not take this medicine. Inform your doctor about all the other medicines that you take as some of them can affect or be affected by this medication. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should also consult their doctors before taking it.
Lowering blood glucose levels is an essential part of managing diabetes as this helps to reduce the risk of serious diabetes-associated complications, such as kidney damage, eye damage, nerve problems, and loss of limbs. Istamet G-IR 50/500/1 Tablet helps control high blood glucose (sugar) levels. It also reduces the risk of heart diseases like heart attack or stroke. Taking this medicine regularly along with proper diet and exercise will help you live a normal, healthy life.
Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Istamet G-IR 50/500/1 Tablet is to be taken with food.
Istamet G-IR 50/500/1 Tablet is a combination of three antidiabetic medications. Sitagliptin helps to control blood sugar levels by increasing substances (incretins) in the body that make the pancreas release more insulin. It also signals the liver to stop producing sugar (glucose) when there is too much sugar in the blood. Glimepiride lowers blood sugar by causing the pancreas to produce insulin (a natural substance that is needed to break down sugar in the body) and helping the body use insulin efficiently. Metformin decreases the amount of glucose you absorb from your food and the glucose made by the liver. It also increases the body's response to insulin, a natural substance that controls the amount of glucose in the blood (blood sugar levels).
